Bowdon Sign Premier League Winner Sam Apoola!
Bowdon have signed Sam Apoola and he has already joined the squad for Pre Season training. Sam started his hockey playing for Beeston, aged 10. He quickly came through the ranks winning both indoor and outdoor national titles with club and school. The powerful forward caught the eye of the England U16 selectors who gave him his first caps at junior level, a highlight being a Hattrick against Belgium in the 4 Nations.
Sam was thrown in at the deep end making his debut for Beeston 1st XI one day shy of his 16th birthday. He then went on to help the Nottingham side lift the trophy the following day.
Upon starting a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Leeds University, Sam moved from Beeston to Leeds Hockey Club and helped them gain National League status in his first season.
‘I’m really pleased that we have managed to bring Sam over to Bowdon. He’s obviously got a good hockey background and having played in this league and the premier league with Beeston, he knows what National League hockey is all about. Sam has thrown himself in to the pre season programme and it is clear he will bring plenty of energy and a real presence to our already exciting front line. He’s one of these players who is happy to get himself involved when the ball gets in the circle and I think he offers us something slightly different. I’m certainly looking forward to the partnership Sam and Ben White will strike up as we start the season.’ Bowdon’s captain Sam Cooke said on the signing of Sam Apoola.
We are looking forward to having him at our club!
